The Pre-Med Timeline

Medical school admissions is a multi-year journey. Here’s what it looks like — and why starting early changes everything.

📚
Year 1–2

Build Your Foundation

Pre-requisite courses: Bio, Chem, Orgo, Biochem, Physics, Psych/Soc
GPA building — every grade counts toward your med school application
Start extracurriculars: volunteering, research, leadership
Develop study habits and time management skills
✅ With Wizeprep Pathway

Headstart CARS & Pre-Med Plus resources kick in here to build your MCAT skills while you complete prerequisites.

⚠️ Without a Plan

No plan. Taking courses without knowing which ones matter. No MCAT exposure yet.

🎯
Year 2–3

MCAT Prep Begins

MCAT prep begins (ideally 6–12 months before test date)
Research opportunities and publications
Clinical volunteering and shadowing hours
Build a compelling activities list
✅ With Wizeprep Pathway

Structured MCAT prep with personalized scheduling. Content review, practice exams, and tutoring — all planned out.

⚠️ Without a Plan

Cramming MCAT prep into an already-packed semester. Juggling coursework, studying, and extracurriculars with no guidance.

📝
Year 3–4

Test & Apply

MCAT test date (spring/summer ideal)
AMCAS/OMSAS applications open (June)
Secondary applications (July–October)
Interviews (November–February)
✅ With Wizeprep Pathway

Score in hand. Application coaching, personal statement review, and interview prep — all included.

⚠️ Without a Plan

Retaking the MCAT after a disappointing score. Rushing applications. Missing deadlines. Delayed by a full cycle.

🎓
Year 4+

Decisions & Next Steps

Admissions decisions (March–April)
Some students take a gap year — and that’s okay
Gap years for research, clinical experience, or MCAT retake
Matriculation and medical school begins
✅ With Wizeprep Pathway

Acceptance letter in hand. Or if taking a gap year, doing it by choice — not because you ran out of time.

⚠️ Without a Plan

Forced gap year because applications were rushed. Still retaking the MCAT. Another $330 registration + months of study.

Ask yourself honestly: what would your application look like if you had started 12 months ago?

More clinical hours. A stronger MCAT score. Essays written without panic. Research experience that actually means something.

Now ask: what will your application look like 12 months from today if you start now versus waiting another semester? The timeline doesn’t pause — but you can control which version of it you’re in.

🏫

Starting in High School? Even Better.

Our Headstart CARS and Pre-Med Plus resources mean you arrive at university already ahead. No other MCAT prep company offers programs that start this early.

🧠 Headstart CARS

Build critical analysis and reasoning skills early — the #1 section students struggle with on the MCAT. Start in high school so CARS feels natural by exam day.

🔬 Pre-Med Plus resources

Pre-requisite course support and foundational science concepts. Arrive at university with stronger fundamentals and a clear course plan.

😰 Without Early Planning

Year 1–2
Courses only — no MCAT awareness
Year 3
MCAT + courses + ECs + research (overloaded!)
Year 4
Retake? Rush apps? Gap year forced?
Everything compressed. Maximum stress. Higher retake risk.

😌 With Wizeprep Pathway

HS / Year 1
Headstart CARS + Pre-Med Plus
Year 2–3
Structured MCAT prep (planned)
Year 3–4
Apply confidently + interview prep
Spread out. Breathing room. Higher success rate.

The bottom line

Self-study can work, especially for students with strong science backgrounds and exceptional self-discipline. But the real cost of self-study ($1,900–$3,500 CAD+ when you add everything up) still leaves you piecing together multiple tools and resources. Wizeprep’s Pre-Med Pathway Elite 515 program ($3,999.99 CAD) includes the AAMC Bundle, analytics, a study planner, and expert support in one place. The question isn’t just what you spend, it’s whether you want a complete system from day one.

For Parents & Families

We understand this is a significant decision for the whole family. Here are answers to the questions parents ask most.

🌱 The Earlier You Start, the Better the Outcome

Parents of high school students: the premed journey begins well before university. Students who start building their foundation early — with the right course selection, study habits, and extracurricular strategy — have a measurable advantage when it comes time to apply to medical school. Our Headstart programs are designed specifically for students who want to get ahead.

There is no such thing as getting started too early.

Our Commitment to Accessible Premed Preparation

Inclusive packages designed to give every student access to premium preparation
Affirm financing available
Free course repeat policy — students can retake the program at no additional cost
Flexibility to switch programs, test dates, or cohorts anytime

What exactly is included in Wizeprep’s Pre-Med Pathway Plan?

Wizeprep’s Pre-Med Pathway plan includes over 150 hours of live instruction, 1-on-1 coaching with MCAT specialists who scored 520+, all official AAMC practice materials ($300+ value), Altius practice exams, 10,000+ practice questions, digital textbooks, flashcards, admissions coaching, personal statement guidance, interview preparation, Pre-Med Plus subscription, GPA support, and lifetime access to all Wizeprep materials. There are no hidden fees or additional purchases required.

How much does it cost and what are the payment options?

Wizeprep’s Pre-Med Pathway Elite 515 program is $3,999.99 CAD. AAMC Bundle included. Affirm financing available. Your child’s advisor can walk through all payment options on a call.

My child is in high school — is it too early to start?

It’s never too early. In fact, students who begin their premed planning in high school have a significant advantage. Our Headstart CARS and Pre-Med Plus resources help high school students build foundational skills, develop strong study habits, and plan their university course selection strategically. Starting early means less stress, better preparation, and a stronger application when the time comes.

What is the score guarantee?

Students who start with a diagnostic score of 500+ are guaranteed to reach 515 or higher. Students starting below 500 are guaranteed a 15-point increase from their starting score. If the guarantee conditions are met (attending classes, completing assignments) and the target isn’t reached, students can retake the entire program at no additional cost.

What is the free course repeat policy?

Students can repeat the entire program as many times as needed until they reach their target score of 515 — at no additional cost. This applies whether they need to retake months or years later. Most competitors limit access to 6–12 months and charge for renewals.

What if my plans change?

We understand plans change. You can transfer between programs (Live Online ↔ Self-Paced), switch test dates or cohorts, and your access never expires. We support you until you reach 515+. See the Investment section below for full details on flexibility options.

What prerequisite courses are needed?

While the program covers all MCAT content from the ground up, students benefit most if they’ve completed introductory courses in biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and psychology/sociology. Your advisor can assess your child’s background and recommend the best starting point.

Who are the instructors?

The MCAT program is led by medical school faculty and advisors with 15–20+ years of experience in test preparation. Tutors are students or graduates who scored 520+ on the MCAT. All instructors are carefully vetted for both subject expertise and teaching ability.

How is this different from buying textbooks and self-studying?

Self-studying typically costs $1,900–$3,500+ CAD when you add everything up (AAMC materials, question banks, textbooks, practice exams, and more), and still lacks the structure, accountability, and expert guidance that help students break through score plateaus. The MCAT tests critical thinking and test strategy — not just content knowledge. Our program includes resources to address specific weaknesses, something no textbook can provide. Plus, students who self-study don’t get the score guarantee or free retake policy.

My child is already in university. How do they balance this with coursework?

The program is designed to work alongside a full university course load. Students can choose between multiple live online cohort schedules (with options from April 2026 through March 2027) or a self-paced option with a personalized scheduler. The advisor creates a customized study timeline based on your child’s specific academic schedule and target MCAT date.

How do I know this company is legitimate?

Wizeprep has been operating since 2012 and has served thousands of students across Canada and the United States. We have a 4.9-star rating on Google Reviews. Our MCAT program is led by medical school faculty and advisors with 15–20+ years of experience in test preparation. We encourage you to research us — check our Reddit reviews, Google Reviews, ask your child’s advisor any questions, or request references from current students.

Can I speak with someone directly?

Absolutely. Your child’s academic advisor is available to speak with you by phone or video call. They can answer any questions about the program, walk through payment options, and address any concerns. Just ask your child to connect you, or reach out through the contact information in their emails.

Questions? Your child’s advisor can speak with you directly.

Ask your child to share their advisor’s contact information, or reply to any email from Wizeprep to schedule a call.
